Face & Eyelid Reconstruction
Facial reconstructive surgery may be recommended for scars resulting from mole or cancer growth removal.
Dr. Dustin Heringer uses advanced techniques to restore facial function and aesthetics for patients in Peoria, Phoenix, and Scottsdale, AZ.
Why should you consider face or eyelid reconstruction?
Creating Your Treatment Plan
In an effort to restore health to areas of the face affected by cancerous lesions and moles, many doctors fail to spend enough time restoring appearance and basic function. Each day, Dr. Heringer treats patients experiencing these issues, providing them with fully customized treatment plans.
Your treatment plan will target the affected areas, but will also incorporate surrounding tissue for specialized skin grafting and flap techniques. Dr. Heringer uses these techniques to achieve aesthetically-pleasing results by artfully repositioning the skin. These techniques can also be used to correct damage in difficult or delicate areas, such as the lips, ears, and nose.
Your Surgery: What to Expect
When you arrive for your procedure, local anesthesia will be administered, so that you are able to relax during your treatment. For more extensive procedures, or if you are anxious about your surgery, general anesthesia or sedation can be provided.
Treatment times vary based on the extent of the treatment plan, and the choice of anesthesia or sedation used. The doctor will communicate with conscious patients during these procedures, asking questions and ensuring that they are comfortable.
Anyone with a desire to restore appearance and basic function to areas of their face affected by mole or cancer removal is a candidate for face and eyelid reconstruction.
Following the procedure, you may feel groggy and disoriented, and this may persist for a couple of hours after surgery. In almost all cases, patients will need to coordinate with a friend or family member to drive them home, and patients are recommended to have someone around for the next 24 hours to help during recovery.
Dr. Heringer will provide you with post-operative instructions, which will include at-home and follow-up appointment instructions. It is important that you follow these instructions carefully, be sure to rest and relax, and are cautious with the treatment area.
Candidates for Surgery
Anyone with a desire to restore appearance and basic function to areas of their face affected by mole or cancer removal is a candidate for face and eyelid reconstruction. Patients should be in good general health. We will review your medical history with you, as well as request a current prescription list.
Leading up to the procedure and during recovery, patients will need to quit smoking, as it slows wound healing and can lead to surgical complications.
Face and eyelid reconstruction is intended to repair the damage from mole or cancer removal, but is not a cancer treatment. Dr. Heringer will work closely with your general health care provider or oncologist to ensure that no malignant cells are present before performing reconstructive surgery.
