Eliminate Frown Lines with Xeomin® Injections

For patients unhappy with how wrinkles between their brows affect their appearance, Dr. Dustin Heringer offers Xeomin® injections at his Scottsdale, AZ, practice. This wrinkle-reducing treatment can smooth out even severe frown lines in as little as a week. Reach out today to set up an appointment and learn if Xeomin® is right for your treatment goals.

What is Xeomin®?

Originally developed to relieve the effects of involuntary muscle spasms, Xeomin® is a drug used in the cosmetic treatment of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows. Like BOTOX®, Xeomin® temporarily blocks nerve stimulation of muscles, consequently preventing contraction and smoothing out the appearance of wrinkles.

Xeomin® presents a much lower risk of patients developing antibodies than BOTOX®, which could undermine the treatment’s effects or even trigger an allergic reaction.

While both drugs are derived from botulinum toxin, there is one key difference: additional ingredients. Xeomin® is a “naked” drug with no additives whatsoever. Thus Xeomin® presents a much lower risk of patients developing antibodies than BOTOX®, which could undermine the treatment’s effects or even trigger an allergic reaction. However, because of this key difference in ingredients, Dr. Heringer and his team do not provide Xeomin® treatments interchangeably with BOTOX® or other botulinum products.

What Are the Benefits of the Treatment?

Xeomin® can smooth out even the most severe wrinkles in the forehead. But because the effects are temporary, patients can test out the results without committing to the permanent effects of surgical treatments, such as facelifts or brow lifts. Furthermore, the lack of additives eliminates the need for refrigerated storage, which in turn reduces the treatment cost, making Xeomin® injections that much more affordable than BOTOX®.

What Can I Expect During the Procedure?

Receiving Xeomin® injections is a simple outpatient procedure, typically lasting no longer than half an hour. In the office, patients receive a local anesthetic beforehand to minimize any potential discomfort. A skilled aesthetician can then inject the drug directly into the forehead muscles. Patients can then immediately return to their regular routine with no downtime.

Like BOTOX®, results are usually apparent within a week of treatment and last for three to six months. However, some patients notice that wrinkles can begin to return in less time after multiple injections. Repeat treatments should be spaced at least three months apart to avoid overexposing your body to botulinum toxin.

Are There Any Side Effects?

As with most treatments, Xeomin® injections are accompanied by certain risks. While many of these are temporary and may even disappear with repeat treatments, it is important to monitor them carefully. In the first few weeks after their injections, patients may experience:

  • Neck pain
  • Dry eyes
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Diarrhea
  • Eyelid swelling or bruising
  • Reduced blinking
  • Discomfort, redness, or swelling around the injection site

In most cases, these side effects fade after a few weeks. However, if any linger or you develop more serious symptoms, such as drooping eyelid, hoarseness, severe skin rash, or difficulty breathing, alert your doctor immediately.
