What is Microdermabrasion?
During microdermabrasion, a gentle stream of fine microcrystals is sprayed onto the epidermis (outer layer of skin) to exfoliate and rid it of dry, dead cells. In addition to exfoliation, it can improve the skin’s texture by increasing the production of collagen in the underlying layer. Compared to dermabrasion, this treatment is a significantly gentler skin exfoliation and polishing method to create a more youthful complexion. Microdermabrasion can improve the appearance of a variety of skin conditions, such as:
- Acne and blackheads
- Minor scars
- Age or sun spots
- Rosacea
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Large pores
- Hyperpigmentation
After exfoliation, microdermabrasion is effective for evening out skin tone and revealing younger skin. However, it is less potent than laser skin resurfacing or chemical peels for addressing deep facial lines and wrinkles. During your private consultation in Scottsdale, AZ, Dr. Heringer and his treatment team can help you decide between laser skin resurfacing, microdermabrasion, and other options.
